Registration for the Loon Foundation’s Kids Summer Camp 2025 is opening this Spring!

The Loon Foundation is offering nature-themed day camps for kids aged 7 - 11 at the Iris & Billy Griffith Nature Centre in Pender Harbour throughout July and August! Day themes will include Ponds, Plants, Bugs, Birds, Invasive and Native Species, and Ecosystem Connections.

Our Nature Camps offers children a fun and immersive learning experience where on-site mini-lessons are reinforced by extended periods of time spent outdoors, observing a diversity of critters and habitats through games, art, and journaling. Campers will utilize all six of their senses to form emotional connections with nature and develop feelings of environmental stewardship and responsibility.

Our camps are designed to let kids take the lead, prompting question asking and finding answers.

Our camps are held at the Irish & Billy Griffith Nature Centre, where lush green mosses and trees surround us, and nature trails around the lagoon are right at our doorstep. We look forward to sharing our space with you, the campers, and all the plants and animals who call this special place home.

Camp registration is limited to 15 participants per week. Two staff members lead camp each day.

Camp questions or concerns?
Please reach out to us through email!

    • What hours are the summer camp active?

Drop off is 9:00 AM and pick-up is 3:00 PM.

Please note that early drop offs and late pick-ups are not available as camp leaders need time to set up in the morning and clean at the end of the day. You are welcome to wait with your kids outside of the centre, but please stay with them until you have been greeted by a camp leader.

    • How do I get to the camp hub?

The Iris and Billy Griffith Nature Centre is located at 15200 Sunshine Coast Hwy, south of Ruby Lake. Watch for the sandwich board sign on the highway and follow the gravel driveway to the Nature Centre. Our summer camps operate out of the lower level of the building - accessible from the rear.

    • Do I need to prepare anything for my kids ahead of time?

As our day camps are primarily spent outdoors here’s a general list of what your kids might need depending on the day. A list of recommended items will be sent along with the schedule for the camp.

      • A lunch, snacks, and water bottle

      • Sturdy shoes for hiking

      • Extra clothing, socks, and a rain jacket

      • Sun protection such as a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, etc..

      • A backpack for essentials

      • Notify staff of any required medications or relevant medical conditions

    • Are there accessibility options?

The facility, trails, and camp programming is limited in options for campers requiring wheelchairs or other assistance. Please feel welcome to contact us ahead of time to explore your options or if you have any further inquiries.

My two children have thoroughly enjoyed their last two summers’ experience at the Iris Griffith Centre's nature school day camp. They eagerly anticipate returning again this year. The program not only provides them with ample time outdoors, but also gives them time to hang out with friends. We’re in a rural area without many structured activities for children in summer so being just a 20-minute drive away from Madeira Park has been a lifesaver for my work schedule and budget. I wholeheartedly recommend this camp to anyone seeking a break from screen time and a fulfilling and enriching summer experience for their children.
